Midterm Election Results and the Environment
The next Sustainable Rossmoor meeting will be on Tuesday, November 10 at 7 pm in the Fairway Room at Creekside, with doors opening at 6:30 for socializing with food and drinks. All Rossmoor residents are welcome – not just members of Sustainable Rossmoor.
The speaker will be RL Miller, the elected chair of California Democratic Party’s environmental caucus, and the Political Director of Climate Hawks Vote.
Her past work has included exposing the politics of climate change denial, opposing fracking for oil in California, and training others to advocate for environmental legislation. RL earned high honors in political science at UCSD for writing a thesis on coal exports and has a law degree from UC Davis.
Climate Hawks Vote is a grassroots advocacy group that supports candidates and elected officials whom it identifies as making action on climate change a top priority.
The group works to support climate-oriented candidates in primary and general elections for the House and Senate by endorsing candidates, educating voters, and training younger people to run for office.
Sustainable Rossmoor’s members have a variety of skills and knowledge to apply in working on environmental issues that will affect future generations. The monthly meetings are an opportunity for potential new members to meet current ones and learn about their work and whether it aligns with their own concerns. They are also an opportunity for all to learn more about these issues. Sustainable Rossmoor members who would like to attend the meeting but do not have transportation to Creekside may call Margo Thelander at (925) 818-1393 and a ride will be arranged with another member.
