PG&E has adopted a policy of Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPSs) to reduce their liability from wildfires. PSPSs can last for 24 hours or even several days, and, in 2019, affected wide areas of Rossmoor and nearby communities. Power outages due to storms and equipment malfunctions can also last for hours at a time and can happen at any time of year.
If you are dependent on a medical device like an oxygen generator, nebulizer, or CPAP machine, power outages like this can have a serious impact on your well-being. Even if you are not dependent on a medical device, extended power outages can be a major inconvenience.
How can you protect yourself against such power outages?
- Backup Option #1: Portable Power Stations — keep one or two critical devices running
- Backup Option #2: Whole House Backup — keep all your critical devices, lights, and appliances running
- Gasoline-powered generators — a very bad idea
